........HUNTINGTON – Third-ranked Huntington played a near-perfect homecoming game here Friday night in handing ninth-ranked Parkersburg a 35-3 setback.

The Highlanders, now 5-1 after winning their fifth straight game, have only lost to undefeated Oakland (TN). Against the Big Reds the home team had five different players score touchdowns and did it with both long plays and long drives while committing no turnovers and amassing a 441-188 advantage in total yards.

Leading the way was Clemson University recruit, homecoming king and quarterback Tayveon Wilson, who scored on a 69 yard run, threw a 27 yard touchdown pass to big playmaker Andreas Reese and finished with 83 yards rushing on nine carries and 172 yards passing by completing eight of nine passes.

Antonyo Paschall and the Okonkwo brothers, MayShaun and Trevon, added touchdowns for the Highlanders, who play defending state champion Martinsburg next week. Martinsburg knocked off number on ranked Morgantown Friday night.

Huntington started slowly but had a 14-3 halftime lead and tacked on three second half scores.

PHS got its only points from a 31 yard Cole Sisk field goal in the second quarter and managed just 104 yards rushing with Alex Greer getting 61 of those on 12 attempts but was able to complete just five of 14 passes for 84 yards with one interception. Tytan Parsons caught two passes for 44 yards. Devin Widman led the PHS defense with 10 tackles.

Huntington’s second possession of the game saw the Highlanders put together a 16-play, 94 yard drive with 12 of those plays coming on the ground. The third Highlander possession was over quickly as Wilson raced 69 yards up the sideline to make it 14-0.

The Big Reds answered but only slightly, putting together an 11-play drive that ended with Sisk kicking a three-pointer as time expired to end the first half. A fourth-down pass from Greer to Javel Chandler was the big play on that drive.

PHS got the second half kickoff and drove to the Huntington 28 but a fourth down pass was incomplete. The Highlanders then reeled off an 11-play, 72-yard drive to score on a Wilson to Reese pass that made the score 21-3 with 2:40 left in the third quarter.

After a punt, Huntington scored in just four plays to make it 28-3 and an interception by Donte Newsome ended the next PHS possession on the Huntington 16 yard line. That resulted in an eight-play Highlander drive for another TD to run the score to 35-3 with five minutes on the clock.
